Known to locals as the Nassau Coliseum, this outstanding venue opened its doors back in 1972. It's found just seven short miles east of the city limits of New York City on Long Island, and showcases the best in sports, concerts, trade shows, and expos.
With a recent renovation under its belt, Nassau Coliseum is looking better than ever. It offers a vast 44,000 square feet of space at the main arena and 60,000 for the show floor at the Expo Center. With its reopening in mid-2017, everything has been refreshed.
Kicking off its new era after an opening performance by the incomparable Billy Joel, it has since shown its stuff with a whole new slate of truly unforgettable shows. It has turned the corner from a 2011 proposal to replace the venue entirely, cementing its status as a local icon.
According to global architecture firm Gensler, the renovation went well beyond infrastructural issues like electrical and air conditioning. Accessibility for those with mobility concerns and other disabilities was increased all across the grounds. Several new features were added, including a beer garden and a lavish backstage area, first of its kind for this type of facility.
World-Class Entertainment at Home
The Coliseum has been home to a wide range of star-studded acts as well as some truly history-making events. For example, it was the scene of the very last show of the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus, which gave its farewell performance here in January 2017.
