Chocolate Ice Cream Day - Long Island - Laffey Real Estate

It's never a bad time for ice cream. However, some days seem made for it. June 7th is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day, so why not celebrate with a cup or a cone? If you're new to the area, our real estate agents can help you find your way around and get what you need. Here are our picks for the best places to get chocolate ice cream on Long Island.

  • Itgen's Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlour - 211 Rockaway Ave., Valley Stream, NY 11580
This gem is a great place for lunch, but an even better place for ice cream. Itgen's serves up sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and other typical diner food. They also have a variety of ice cream flavors, including chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, vanilla fudge, and more. And they have an even wider variety of toppings, from hot fudge and butterscotch to pineapple syrup and candied walnuts. You'll definitely want to try their Death by Chocolate sundae: double chocolate chip ice cream, hot fudge sauce, whipped cream, and chocolate sprinkles.

Visit the Past Around Long Island - Laffey Real Estate

Long Island is rich with history, with several sites that make ideal destinations for trips that are fun and educational. Theodore Roosevelt, as well as the Guggenheim and Vanderbilt families are part of the area's history, so you'll be able to visit their former homes as well as other interesting locations.

Our real estate agents suggest making a trip to visit the past at these historic Long Island destinations and making sure of any restricted hours due to COVID-19 before your visit:

  • Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium – 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, NY 11721
Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium is located near Centerport homes for sale and is on a 43-acre estate, the centerpiece of which is a spectacular Spanish-Revival mansion of William Vanderbilt II. Take a tour of the mansion's living quarters and then visit its Marine Museum to see wild-animal habitat, dioramas, and more. Then head to the planetarium to watch a show, complete with a full-dome view and surround sound. Finally, finish your visit at the observatory, where you can look at the evening sky through telescopes that provide amazingly detailed views.

Winter Weather Activities Around Long Island - Laffey Real Estate

Just because it's winter is no reason to give up on the more strenuous walking regimens we developed in warmer weather. It's all a matter of having the proper gear: down outerwear; layers underneath, starting with thin, long-sleeved, wicking baselayer; warm, wicking socks; sturdy footwear; a face covering for windy days; and good gloves to keep hands warm. The next step is targeting the right destinations for your hikes. Are you bringing the kids? The dog? Do a little research, and be sure to check the weather, so you don't dress too warm or not warm enough for the temperature.

If you're looking for a home with outdoor adventuring destinations nearby, our real estate agents can help. While you're taking a break from house-hunting, how about checking out these places for some inspiration?

  1. Blydenburgh County Park - Veteran's Memorial Highway, Smithtown
This richly forested, 627-acre park at the headwaters of the Nissequogue River offers year-round delights for explorers. Hike around 100-acre Stump Pond on a hike led by the Greenbelt Trail Conference guides. Year-round horseback riding is offered. Dog owners can also bring their canine friends for a romp in the dog park. Enter at the northern entrance by following Route 347 to Brooksite Drive North; turn left on New Mill Road and follow to the park entrance at the end. The park is open year-round to Suffolk County residents and their guests, so if you're looking for a house among Smithtown homes for sale, put this gem at the top of your list of places to visit.
